FedEx announced the opening of a new global route starting from April, connecting the FedEx Asia Pacific hub in Guangzhou, China and the FedEx Global Super Hub in Memphis, USA, to meet the transportation needs between the Asian and North American markets. The new route currently uses McDonnell Douglas MD-11 freighters. Starting from May, 777 cargo planes will be put into use to further enhance transportation capacity. This route operates 5 flights per week and 1 flight per day from Tuesday to Saturday. FedEx China President Chen Jialiang said, "FedEx is constantly adjusting its network to meet market development needs. The new routes will help promote trade between the South China region, and even the Asia Pacific region, with the North American market. FedEx's flexible global network, coupled with fast and reliable delivery services, will help local businesses enhance their competitiveness in the international market.
Flights departing from Guangzhou will make stops in Osaka, Japan and Anchorage, USA in April. Starting from May, after stopping in Osaka, Japan, there will be direct flights to Memphis, USA. The flight returning from Memphis will stop at Indianapolis and Anchorage in the United States from Tuesday to Friday, and then fly directly to Guangzhou. And Saturday's flight will stop at Honolulu and Anchorage in the United States. Guangdong Province has always been one of the major trading centers in the country. The total import and export value of goods trade in Guangdong Province in 2017 was 6.82 trillion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 8%. Among them, the total import and export value of goods with the United States reached 862.47 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 10.4%. In 2017, the total import and export volume of cross-border e-commerce in Guangdong Province reached 44.19 billion yuan, an increase of 93.8%. The new route will promote and support the growing trade demand between Guangdong, as well as the South China region and the North American market. FedEx has been investing in its network and infrastructure to meet customer needs. The company added two new routes last year, including a route connecting Li è ge, Belgium and Memphis, USA, with stops in Seattle, Anchorage, USA and Shanghai, China; And fly directly from Shanghai, China to Oakland, USA, then go to Memphis, USA, Cologne, Germany, and return to Shanghai. At the beginning of this year, FedEx officially opened the FedEx Shanghai International Express and Freight Center, becoming the second international transit center established in China after the FedEx Asia Pacific Transit Center located in Guangzhou.
